| Guest Artist Kevin Petite, Guest Artist
Kevin Petite, a Fort Worth native, began training at 15 with Dian Clough West and Debbie Allen Summer Intensives before later attending the University of Texas at Austin as a business major. Mr. Petite then moved to Los Angeles as a scholarship student at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, training with renowned masters. After another move, this time to the east coast, he danced with the Ailey School, with such choreographers as Troy Powell, Scott Rink and Abdur Jackson. He was the also the recipient of the honorable Alvin Ailey Fellowship. Since then, Mr. Petite's professional credits include the Radio City Christmas Spectacular Tour, Ailey II, (the second company to the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater), the National Tour of Twyla Tharp's "Movin' Out", as well as teaching across the US and the Virgin Islands. During his last master class at Round Rock Repertory, Mr. Petite taught the "Daniel" variation from Ailey's classic "Revelations". During Mr. Petite's last master class taught at Round Rock Repertory, participates were thrilled to learn the “Daniel” variation from Ailey's classic “Revelations” and the “Angry Man's Solo” from Twyla Tharp's “Movin' Out”. VANESSA MARTÍNEZ DE BAÑOS, Guest Artist
Originally from Spain, Vanessa is a jazz and tap dancer, teacher, and choreographer currently working for the Spanish musical theatre production company, Tela-Katola currently showing the Spanish production of “I Love You, You're Perfect …Now Change”. In NYC she is one of the creators, directors and dancers of “3 to 1” a tap and contemporary show presented at the TANK. As a dancer she can be seen both in New York and overseas, dancing in contemporary jazz and tap companies such as DoubleTake Co, J.T Lotus Dance Co., Acrodance S.L., Burnt Sugar; Bemoved, and as a soloist for Balasole Dance Company … or for choreographers such as Guillém Alonso, Eva Sánchez, Ashley Carter and Lynn Schwab among others… Most recently she was featured in the European production of “Compradores de Sueños” in Madrid and was recently seen performing in New York at Tap City, The Ailey Theater, Gerald W. Lynch Theater, Webster Hall, Teatro La Tea, or Baryshnikov Arts Center. Future performances with DoubleTake Dance include Cancer Benefit Gala at the JCC Theater in NYC and the East Flatbush Dance Festival. Though primarily trained in New York, Vanessa has also studied in European schools, and was recently honoured with a scholarship from the Spanish Ministry of Culture. Vanessa can be found on teaching faculties in Spain and Mexico. Also a trained actress, she has been in several TV and theatre productions and commercials, and can be seen dancing alongside Justin Timberlake in the upcoming movie "Friends With Benefits."
Ashley Carter, Guest Artist
Both internationally as well as in the U.S., Ashley is passionate about her work as a dancer, teacher and choreographer. Primarily trained in New York, she has studied and worked in many different styles from ballet to lyrical, modern, tap, hip-hop, contemporary, and musical theatre. She has had the opportunity to perform and/or choreograph at venues such as Jacob's Pillow, Teatro Madrid, The Gerald Lynch Theater, The Barrow Street Theater, SummerStage, Spoke the Hub, Webster Hall and the Ailey Theatre; and has worked alongside artists such as Ricky Martin, Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis. Ashley is also on faculty at various schools in Mexico and Spain; and has taught at Broadway Dance Center, Steps on Broadway, Peridance and Ballet Arts in New York City, and Lines Dance Center in San Francisco. In 2008 she was invited to Madrid to teach at the Association of Dance Professionals and choreograph for Spanish recording artist Nuria Elosegui. Last year she performed in Sia's music video, in Central Park Summerstage, in a Boost Mobile commercial, and is credited with choreographing independent feature film "Tom and Valkyrie". She has just finished touring with the European show "Compradores de Sueños", premiering with the Legendary Dance Project at the Museo del Barrio and finishing her third season of New York City's Summerstage. This summer Ashley has danced in upcoming movies and commercials and she also choreographed and produced a full-length show for her company DoubleTake Dance. Derrick Shrader, Guest Artist
Derrick's style of dance is fusion jazz, jazz, tap. He has appeared on ABC Family’s "Switched! ," the motion picture "The Gift" and the stage show for Disney's animated feature "Bolt." Other credits include: Tappin’ in the Twin Cities with Gregory Hines and Savion Glover, Burnin’ The Floor and Blur featuring Carmen Electra, as well as performing with the Seamless Dance Company, Out On A Limb Ballet Company, In*Formation and Keep It Jumpin’. Derrick has received many honors over the years including more than 300 top choreography awards and more than 100 concept and storytelling choreography awards. However he claims his biggest achievements are being honest, true to his craft and making his Mom proud. Watching his student, Kourtni Lind, on "So You Think You Can Dance" was an affirmation for him and his work. Derrick’s teaching methods are based upon embracing your limitations and developing the facility you are given. He believes we are humans first, dancers second, and asks his students to be true with themselves and honest with the art. It’s not quantity, but quality.
